During the application process you may be offered additional accounts depending on the type of account you initially selected and the eligibility requirements of the additional accounts. If you require more than one account, you will need to complete another online application for each additional account.
No. In order to open an account online, you must have a physical address within the United States.
Yes. You can save the online application and return to it at a later time. You will create a Username and a Password that you will use to access your saved application. Your application will be saved for 30 calendar days. The Username and password used to complete an online application is unique to retrieving your saved application only and is not used for Online Banking.

To apply for an account online with Bank of the West, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of legal age and have a Social Security Number. Otherwise, please visit one of our branches to open your account.

Yes. If you open an account online with another person, you can request a debit card for each signer on the account.
Yes. Bank of the West maintains strict security standards and procedures to prevent unauthorized access to your personal information and to ensure your security. Bank of the West allows personal checking, savings and money market accounts to be opened online, with a maximum of two applicants per account. For additional products such as loans and lines of credit please visit our full list of products available to open online.
We are required by U.S. Federal Law to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. You must be a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident of legal age and have a Social Security Number to open an account online at Bank of the West. You will need the following information to complete your application:
- Driver's License or State ID
- Social Security Number
- Current home address
- Current email address
The minimum age to open an account online with Bank of the West is 18. Except in Nebraska where the minimum age is 19.
You will receive online notification and email notification if your application was approved, under review, or declined. If your account application is pending further review, a Bank of the West Account Specialist will review your application prior to you receiving further notification of the outcome of your application.
Yes. We will send your monthly statements to the mailing address you supplied on your application form. However, you also have the option to receive your statements online. After you receive your debit card you may enroll in Online Banking and sign up for Online Statements.
In order to enroll in Online Banking, you will need your debit card. Once your opening deposit is received we will send your debit card to the mailing address provided when you opened your account. When you enroll online, you will need: your account number, your debit card, and the social security number associated with the account. If you are an existing Online Banking customer, your new account should appear on Online Banking within two to five business days.
Yes. Bank of the West must receive your opening deposit within 30 calendar days after approving your online account application. If the deposit is not received, the account is closed on the 31st day.
To set up Direct Deposit, please contact your employer or Direct Deposit issuer directly to fill out the necessary Direct Deposit forms. You will need your new account number and routing number. These will be provided when your account is opened. In certain cases you will need a voided check from your new account.
Once we receive your opening deposit we will process your debit card and check order requests. Once you have received your debit card, PIN Number and/or checks you may begin to use your account. If you need to access the funds in your account before receiving your debit card, PIN or checks please stop by any of our convenient branch locations.
You can print or save all of the disclosures provided during the account opening process. You can also access these disclosures from the My Applications page. Log back in to your account at https://accountopening.bankofthewest.com/oflows/oweb/home.seam with the username and password you created when applying online. In the Disclosures section of the My Applications page, click the View link to the disclosure you wish to view. You will also receive the links to the disclosures in the welcome e-mail during your online account opening process.

Holds may be placed on checks deposited at the branch. You will be notified if any deposit holds are placed on your account and when these funds will be made available.
No. These deposits are processed via the ACH (Automatic Clearing House) Network and are not subject to holds.
