OMAHA, Neb. | Apr 02, 2015

Bank of the West will commemorate 25 years of bringing the community together to celebrate America’s independence with a free concert and fireworks show featuring Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Eddie Money. Bank of the West Celebrates America, Omaha’s favorite summertime tradition, is Friday, June 26, 2015, in beautiful Memorial Park.

The 25th anniversary of Bank of the West Celebrates America will feature:

  • Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: 2015 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, well-known for their number-one rock classic hit, “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll;”
  • Eddie Money: Grammy-nominated rock musician known for hits such as “Take Me Home Tonight” and “Think I’m in Love;”
  • Bank of the West Celebrates America Opening Band Contest: The public will once again submit their favorite up-and-coming band and vote for a winner who will open the concert;
  • Remembering Our Fallen Exhibit: A special photo exhibit tribute of the more than 80 Nebraskans who lost their lives serving in the Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq—concertgoers will have the opportunity to honor and remember these Nebraskan American heroes;
  • Food Bank for the Heartland: Bank of the West’s nine-year partnership with Food Bank for the Heartland continues, inviting the community to help wipe out hunger;
  • Fireworks Finale: Bank of the West Celebrates America will culminate with an expanded fireworks finale set to music. The fireworks show will be double the length of past Celebrates America fireworks shows.

“It’s an honor to commemorate the longevity of Bank of the West Celebrates America, a favorite summer event now in its 25th year of celebrating our great nation and community. We are pleased to announce another fantastic evening of music legends and an expanded fireworks finale,” said Robert Dalrymple, Executive Vice President, Bank of the West Midwest Division. “To help mark our 25th anniversary of this event, a special addition to this year’s concert is the ‘Remembering Our Fallen’ photo exhibit. This moving exhibit honors those from Nebraska who lost their lives fighting the War on Terror in order to protect our freedom. Bank of the West Celebrates America was created to honor those who fight for and protect America’s independence in addition to thanking our hometown community members for their ongoing support. Please join us to celebrate our great community and America’s independence on June 26 in beautiful Memorial Park.”

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, a 2015 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for their potent mix of hard rock, glam, punk, metal and garage rock that sounds fresh and relevant in any era. Their biggest hit, rock classic “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” rose to number one on the Billboard charts in 1982.

Their other popular recordings include "Crimson and Clover," "I Hate Myself for Loving You," "Bad Reputation," "Light of Day" and "Love is All Around." The hard-rocking Joan Jett & the Blackhearts have had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles. In recent years, Jett has had her music featured in several films and TV series, including The Runaways, Baby Mama and Shrek. From her days as a 15-year-old founding member of the all-female punk-pop band, The Runaways, Jett has made records that convey toughness and joy. She continues to be an inspiration for young female rockers today, taking an active part in signing bands like Girl in a Coma and the Dollyrots to her record label, Blackheart Records.

Eddie Money
Eddie Money burst onto the music scene with his debut album in 1977. Fans immediately fell in love with Money’s sound, and the album, which went double platinum, featured hits like “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.” Money followed the success of his debut album with a stream of Top 40 hits, as well as some of the era’s most creative videos for songs like “Think I’m in Love” and “Shakin.” In 1986, Money released the album Can’t Hold Back, which featured the classic, Grammy-nominated duet with Ronnie Spector, “Take Me Home Tonight.” The song reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went platinum and also featured the hit, “I Wanna Go Back.” Money’s brand of rock ‘n’ roll transcends generations and continues to move audiences today. Along with having sold more than 28 million records, Money’s songs have appeared in dozens of movies and television shows and have been included in hit video games like “Guitar Hero.”

Bank of the West Celebrates America Opening Band Contest
An up-and-coming band will have a chance of a lifetime to open the show in front of thousands. The Bank of the West Celebrates America Opening Band Contest welcomes eligible bands to compete to be the opening act on stage at this year’s Bank of the West Celebrates America.

Remembering Our Fallen Photo Exhibit
“Remembering Our Fallen” is a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by more than 80 Nebraskans killed in the War on Terror serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Created by Bill and Evonne Williams of Patriotic Productions, this emotional photo exhibit of these Nebraskan American heroes will give concert attendees an opportunity to honor and remember these Nebraskans for the sacrifice they made.

Food Bank for the Heartland Partnership
Bank of the West is proud to partner with Food Bank for the Heartland, which has been feeding the hungry in our community for more than 30 years. The Food Bank and Bank of the West will ask concert-goers to purchase commemorative Bank of the West Celebrates America plush bears for $5 at the concert to support the Food Bank. For every dollar donated to the Food Bank, it can provide three meals. By purchasing a bear, collectively, concert attendees could provide thousands of dollars to help feed the needy in our community.

Bank of the West Celebrates America, held on the Dodge Street side of Memorial Park, will begin with the National Anthem at 6 p.m. The winner of the Bank of the West Celebrates America Opening Band Contest will be the opening act, followed by Eddie Money and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. The evening concludes with a spectacular 15-minute fireworks finale at 10 p.m. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Bank of the West Celebrates America.
