Bank of the West Lauded in Five Major U.S. Locations as a Top Corporate Philanthropist
San Francisco | Dec 11, 2015
Bank of the West was acknowledged as a top corporate philanthropist in five U.S. locations including San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Denver and Portland, Oregon. Appearing alongside some of the nation’s most generous corporate donors, the bank was acknowledged for its contributions in each city and also for its overall 2014 philanthropic giving of more than six million dollars throughout the regions in which it operates.
The ratings were developed by The San Francisco Business Times and The Business Journals of Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Denver and Portland. The publications compiling the lists look to highlight “innovative, community-minded companies that are driving meaningful change.”
“Philanthropy and community engagement are core values at our bank and for many of our employees who have contributed personally to organizations in their communities,” said Jenny Flores, Community Affairs manager at Bank of the West. “Support of vital programs strengthens our neighborhoods and contributes to higher quality of life for individuals and families – whether through affordable housing, education and workforce development or technical assistance to small businesses. We’re honored to be recognized for our community investments, and also acknowledge the important work of our nonprofit colleagues who are dedicated to advancing our collective well-being.”
The bank’s philanthropic investments support nonprofit organizations with outreach programs particularly in low- to moderate-income communities. Last year, the bank supported more than 800 nonprofits in focus areas including financial education, workforce development and job training, entrepreneurship and small business development, and affordable housing. Bank employees echo the organization’s enthusiasm for community development and, in 2014, contributed more than 33,000 hours in volunteer service.
In addition to being acknowledged by regional publications, Bank of the West recognized others in the community. Bank of the West recently hosted its sixth annual Philanthropy Awards, awarding $100,000 grants to both Barrio Logan College Institute and Lava Mae in the Community Impact Award and Innovation Award categories, respectively. Through this program, Bank of the West further demonstrates its commitment to the community and support of nonprofit organizations that are making a measureable impact through their leadership and effective programs.
