Bank of the West announces $25,000 contribution to Business Outreach Center
Bank of the West and its parent company BNP Paribas are proud banking partners and sponsors of the 2nd annual Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED), taking place on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the United Nations in New York City. The event will host world-class influencers, leaders and experts to celebrate, support, and empower women entrepreneurs worldwide. The event will be streamed live to over 144 countries and 800 universities and colleges celebrating Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. BNP Paribas, founding partner of the inaugural event in 2014, is continuing its support in raising more awareness of Women’s causes for this second year. In addition to the sponsorship, Bank of the West will be making a $25,000 contribution to Business Outreach Center Network supporting women entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses.
The goal of this event is to raise awareness on inequalities affecting women worldwide, to empower the four billion women on the planet, to develop and promote entrepreneurship amongst women, and to bring hope to 250 million girls living in poverty.
“Women worldwide have historically been underpaid, undervalued, underrepresented, underfunded – and underestimated…and still are,” says WED founder and entrepreneur Wendy Diamond. “Women-owned businesses are set to increase by 90 percent in the next five years. We need to change the status quo because lifting women creates economic opportunity and vitality, locally and globally.”
"It is an honor to be part of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day,” said Jenny Flores, senior vice president, community affairs manager at Bank of the West. “The advancement of women as leaders and entrepreneurs is vital to achieve economic sustainability in our communities. It is a privilege to be part of a movement that celebrates success and seeks to inspire others. We strive for diversity and inclusion, as proven by the women executives we have leading our businesses.”
Bank of the West is proud to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to women’s entrepreneurship by contributing $25,000 to the Business Outreach Center (BOCs) Network, headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. The contribution will support the BOC Network’s Women’s Business Center (WBC), offering business training, one-on-one counseling, and financing resources to help women entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. Through the partnership, both Bank of the West and BNP Paribas professionals will work directly with WBC clients as part of a mentorship program to provide the skills, guidance, and support necessary to fully realize the potential of New York’s next generation of women entrepreneurs.
“We are thrilled to be included in this new program in partnership with Bank of the West. We deeply appreciate their support of women entrepreneurs and their commitment to helping women succeed in business,” said Delia A. Awusi, Director of the BOC Women's Business Center.
Both Claudia Fan Munce, Bank of the West Board Member, and Vanessa Washington, General Counsel and a member of the Executive Management Committee at Bank of the West, will be panelists at this year’s event. Washington will participate in “The Importance of Placing More Women on Corporate Boards” panel, while Fan Munce will join the “Investing Smart – Raising the Bar on Impact Investing Due Diligence” panel.
BNP Paribas is committed to promote women’s causes and sponsors several events throughout the year, both locally and globally, including the Women’s Leadership Initiative, an annual speaker series focusing on women and their paths to achieving success.
