Look West brings innovators in the arts, media and technology for engaging discussions with New York Times journalists in front of local audiences throughout the Western United States"

Bank of the West, one of America’s most reputable banks according to a 2015 Reputation Institute/American Banker survey, and The New York Times (NYT) will continue “The New York Times Look West” series, which includes on-stage discussions between notable leaders in the arts, media, and technology, and some of the country’s most well-respected journalists. The event, taking place Wednesday, October 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (PT) at the World Trade Center in Portland, Oregon, is the sixth in the series, and will feature best-selling author Cheryl Strayed in conversation with NYT reporter and author Patricia Cohen.

Strayed, who inspired millions of readers and movie-goers with her memoirs “Wild” and her “Dear Sugar” advice column, will discuss her new book, “Brave Enough,”(Alfred A. Knopf, published Oct. 27) which spotlights 100 of her most popular and inspirational quotes. During the event, she will discuss the power of words, the twists and turns of her remarkable life, and the tough love that has enabled her to put one foot in front of the other and be brave.

Earlier this year, New York Times Look West events were held in southern and northern California featured topics such as “Leading Ladies” with actors Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates and “Disruptors: The Future of Television” with CEOs and senior leaders from Hulu, Sling TV and Vimeo and “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway, at an event held in the heart of Silicon Valley.

“We are delighted to help bring Look West to Portland and welcome another fantastic personality to the Look West series roster,” said Ann Von Germeten, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Bank of the West. “The West is home to innovative thinkers across a wide array of industries, such as the arts, design, media, technology and finance. We've worked closely with The New York Times to curate this great series and present these engaging discussions throughout a growing list of cities and communities.”

Launched in California in late 2014, The New York Times Look West program is expanding to several cities across the western United States starting this month. The series will continue later this year and next year with events in cities such as Denver and San Francisco. To learn about upcoming events, dates and times, and where to purchase tickets, visit
