Bank of the West Sponsors the 81st Annual California Book Awards

San Francisco, CA | June 7, 2012

Bank of the West is the proud sponsor of the Commonwealth Club of California's 2012 California Book Awards.

The annual awards recognize the very best in literary achievement for that year, in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, first work of fiction, poetry, Californiana, notable contribution to publishing, juvenile literature and young adult literature.

"We are pleased to support this celebration for The Commonwealth Club of California's 81st Annual California Book Awards," said Paul Wible, Head of Bank of the West's National Finance Group. "As a California bank with strong ties to education and literacy programs, we are proud to help recognize our state's exceptional literary talent."

Mr. Wible is a strong supporter of the national Raising A Reader program, which encourages a love for reading and learning among families across the country. During the awards program he will be joined by Dr. Gabrielle Miller, the National Executive Director for Raising A Reader, who will speak about the important role that reading to children has in brain development and language acquisition.

The California Book Awards are among the most prestigious literary awards in the state of California. Literary historians generally credit the book awards for being among the first to recognize the talent of a young John Steinbeck in the 1930s.
