Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer
Raj Gopal is a Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at Bank of the West, part of the BNP Paribas group. In his role, Raj manages teams responsible for all aspects of Risk Management, including identification, analysis, modeling, reporting and governance for various types of risk, including Credit, Market, Operational & Technology, Model, etc.
At the Bank, Raj participates in/chairs a number of senior management committees, including the Bank's Executive Management Committee, Enterprise Risk Committee, Credit Committee, Allowance for Loan-Lease Losses Committee, Asset-Liability Committee, Capital Planning Committee, IT Steering Committee and Model Risk Management Committee.
Raj has an extensive background in financial services risk and portfolio management having spent 15 years in various Risk Management roles at Wachovia and Wells Fargo before joining Bank of the West in 2010. Raj was born and raised in Malaysia, lived many years in Atlanta, GA before moving to San Francisco, CA in 2009. He has the privilege of serving as a Director on the Boards for the Risk Management Association (RMA) and Bread and Roses Presents (a local non-profit). When not working or sleeping, Raj enjoys singing, playing guitar and bass, working out, reading and playing with his dogs.
