Ben Stuart is Bank of the West's Chief Marketing Officer & Head of Growth & Transformation. He oversees Marketing and Corporate Communications, as well as Corporate Social Responsibility, Customer Experience, and Digital Channels.

Spearheading the bank's growth and transformation, Ben leads an integrated and agile team that collaborates bank-wide to deliver a differentiated customer and employee experience. Under his leadership, Bank of the West has earned repeat recognition from the Financial Communications Society and a 2019 Gold Effie Award. In 2020, Bank of the West became the first and only U.S. bank recognized by Fast Company magazine's World Changing Ideas Awards; it was selected as a finalist in the categories of General Excellence and Corporate Social Responsibility, while garnering an Honorable Mention in the Advertising category for its "What on Earth" campaign. At Bank of the West, he also led the first-of-its-kind 1% for the Planet checking account launch, and has forged alliances with leading environmental organizations including Protect Our Winters and The Conservation Alliance.

Ben has more than 20 years of experience growing businesses and managing complex marketing programs for B2B and B2C companies. Prior to joining Bank of the West in 2017, he held the role of Chief Marketing Officer at Surescripts and Sutherland Global Services. His many years in financial services include serving as Vice President of Advertising and Global Agency Relations at American Express. Prior to American Express, Ben was Senior Vice President of Brand and Digital Marketing at Charles Schwab, where he created and drove the company-wide “Talk to Chuck” marketing program. He also served on the boards of the Charles Schwab Foundation and the AdCouncil.

His marketing campaigns at Charles Schwab received numerous awards and recognition including an Effie Award and Grand Ogilvy from the Advertising Research Federation, as well as became the subject of a Harvard Business School case study. His work for Small Business Saturday at American Express won Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival of Creativity. Earlier in his career, Ben worked at global advertising agencies and spent five years managing the Procter & Gamble and Pepsi accounts across Central Europe, including Russia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech and Slovak Republics.

A regular speaker at outdoor industry, sustainability, and finance conferences, Ben lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and three kids. He enjoys hiking, cycling, and trying new restaurants in his free time, and sits on the board of the Urban Arts Partnership in New York.
