Michael Shepherd

Michael Shepherd Chairman

Michael Shepherd is Chairman of Bank of the West and of its corporate parents BancWest Corporation and BNP Paribas USA.

Shepherd joined Bank of the West in 2004 and held a succession of positions, including General Counsel, Chief Administrative Officer and President. He served as CEO from January 2008 – June 2016, when he assumed the additional role as Chairman of BNP Paribas USA. Before joining Bank of the West, he was General Counsel of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and of Shawmut National Corporation.

He served in government as Senior Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, Associate Counsel to the President of the United States and Deputy Assistant Attorney General.

Shepherd is also a director of First Hawaiian Inc. and of Pacific Life Insurance Company, where he is the Lead Director. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of FTV Capital and of Promontory Interfinancial Network, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Shepherd is active in community affairs, including current service as a member of the Investment and Finance Committee of Stanford Health Care, and the Business Executive Council of the University of California.

Shepherd has served as a Member and President of the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board, as a Member of the FDIC Advisory Committee on Economic Inclusion, and as a Director of the Presidio Trust. He received the HOPE Silver Rights Vision Award in 2015 and was the 2013 Recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award of B’nai B’rith International.
